Default 256MB vs 512MB?

How would the 256MB and 512MB 8800GT differ in performance. Is it only worth getting the 512MB version for higher resolution.

I would be gaming at 1440:900, would that justify a 512MB version or no?

I'm not sure. With the GTS, you're either getting a 384 (or whatever the hell it is) or a 768, which is pretty clear. But the 256MB vs 512 is harder. I would recommend the 256, unless you're going dual-monitor like me. I have 1440x900 on a 384, and I'm doing fine.

Ok thanks.

I might just have a look around anyway, I'm curious to know anyway. There's no way i'll be getting another monitor, or a bigger one, so the resolution will be staying at 1440.

Think i might have a little snoop around.

Thanks anyway

The higher ram amount is, as you say, useful for outing pixels to higher resolutions and for AA.

I'd recommend the 256mb version for 1280x1024/1440x900.

I'd recommend the 512mb version for 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 (although even 512mb ram isn't ideal at the latter resolution).
