With my recent build I purchased 1 Ati 4870. I began by using a 20" monitor and things looked great, but to save some space on my desk I opted to change my monitor to the 32" HDTV that is mounted on my wall. The quality is great, but for things such as text and normal use it is rather difficult. My main question is, would you recommend getting a nother 4870 or getting a smaller, single monitor? Both options are around $200-$250, but would another 4870 increase resolution on a larger monitor all that much?

You can't increase resolution on the monitor beyond its maximum res.

The 4870 can run two independent displays, you scarcely need a second.

The 32" HDTV's giving you 1366x768, it's not surprising you're squinting to make out text on it.

How much space does a 20" TFT screen take on a desk? 9" by 7"? You can have that running 1600x1200 text while the HDTV is showing Sky Sports through the same 4870. If either annoys you, you can power off that monitor. It sounds to me like you have all the kit, all you need is to decide your desktop isn't cluttered by the footprint of the monitor. I glued pen holders and office tidies to mine, it's almost useful. If you keep reading text from six feet your eyes'll drop out.

I meant resolution as a loose term for "graphics quality". What would you do in this situation to best maximize this systems graphics output. Get a smaller monitor, or get another 4870?

The 20" monitor was an older, rather large LCD monitor that has since moved on. I tried to dual monitor when I first built the system. Unless ATI made an update, the 4870 does not support dual monitors. (Its rather the 4870's current drivers, or that combined with vista 64 bit.)

All cards on the market today support dual monitors.

I would buy one of the 21.5" 1920x1080 panels.

I know they support them. The current (might have been updated since I last tried to dual monitor) driver for the 4870 had issues with dual monitors and if someone had dual monitors running it would act as if the graphics driver was never installed. I'll try and see if they are still having this issue.
