My graphic card is GTX 285. I tried with Riva Tuner ,to make 4 profiles ,after i checked in Youtube.
When i speed up the fan ,with Riva Tuner, let's say to 60 % ,it's really loud. Some users said, the card it's "too new" for the latest Riva Tuner version,so if i'm playing, the fan cooler doesen't speed up automaticaly ,when the GPU temperature it's higher than ..... C It's annoying somehow, that everytime when i wanna play,i have to open the Riva Tuner, and speed up the fan. |

Well to reittirate myself and mctw,
An aftermarket/3rd party cooler will void your warranty. It is installed by removing the stock cooler, attatching the backplate and mounting the fans.(See here) You will then need to buy a 3pin fan power connection to Molex adaptor. The molex can then be plugged into the Zalman controller. Now you can control the fan via your fan controller. Notes: Check the product compatibility, you're using a 280 cooler for a 285 card, just check they're compatible first. This will probably void your warranty, and you may find it quite difficult. Only do it if you really think it's worth it, and you really need it.

Geeez. Now i'm a bit "scarred" about warranty.
I wish i could fix the Riva Tuner,to get automaticaly the speeds, when the graphic card is getting hotter, but i can't. Is there another option to cool the graphic card, without removing the stock cooler? I saw in internet, few months ago, like a cooler, inside the case, somewhere between the motherboard and graphic card. Stop laughing, guys

what sort of temps is your card getting to under heavy load?

If i'm playing Crysis , all HIGH ,AA X 8 , 1920 x 1200 ( 24 " monitor ) Riva Tuner 60 % fan speed , after one hour ,about 72 - 74 C.
If i leave Riva Tuner on default 40 % ,then i have 84-86 C. In idle 43-44 C.I didn't tested on other games yet. What do you think ? My graphic card is PNY Geforce GTX 285. Is PNY a "cheap" brand ??? |

PNY isn't the highest of ends, but it's not rock bottom either.
My RAM is PNY, and if I'm honest with you I'm actually looking into a couple of PNY cards too. 72 - 74 isn't disastrous, why do you especially want extra cooling? Anything else you add will require removing the stock fan first. The only thing you can do which if you're paranoid about temps you could do, is add in a case fan or two, which can be controlled from your Zalman.

What would you suggest me,guys, about Riva Tuner ? Should i leave the "auto" option,or " fixed" for the fan speed ? If i leave the "fixed" i can create 3-4 profiles in Riva Tuner (or more, whatever) and i put the shortcuts on my desktop. Let's say,i have the shortcut named "60 % " right ? About 1900 RPM. ![]() Before i start playing,i just press on this shortcut, and i'm safe to play... Either you think,it's better if i leave the "auto" option ? In this case, the fan speed will increase automaticaly, when the graphic card is getting hotter ? Thanks again for your help, and i apologize for my english. |

i would personally use the auto option, that way you get the best mix of noise and performance. i imagine the noise of the stock cooler is the reason that you want to turn the speed down?
Providing that the auto option does actually react to temps, bear in mind you may have to set the boundaries for the speeds though. But still, like fordy said, better placed or simply more case fans would help your defiantly help your cooling! You said you have 3 case fans, 1 front, 1 side and 1 rear. i take it the front and side are blowing in, with the rear extracting air? thats the ideal set up. |

Thanks a lot for your help, guys.
Before i stop posting here on this thread,i have few more questions about the Nvidia GTX 285. I didn't want to open a new thread just for this,so here we go. In the future would be a good idea to buy another GTX 285 for SLI? Or a better GPU + a better PSU ? My graphic card will be good "enough" to play all the 2009 FPS games,at 1920 * 1200 ,high settings, without AA ? I mean ,one more year or less ? I repeat: without AA. If i'll decide in the future for SLI ,i would have to OC my cpu, isn' t it ?Even for a better cpu gard,in the future,same....OC cpu ? |
