Hey

I'm in need of some help.

I don't know much about computers right, but i've bought the Sony Vaio VGC-LV1S (link below)

http://www.johnlewis.com/230521496/Product.aspx

and my brother has linked his tv to his laptop using a monitor cable or something like that! Which means he uses two screens for his laptop.

But my computer doesn't have the plug which allows me to a "monitor cable" to connect to a spare monitor i have.

Please can you suggest an adapter if there is one that i can use to attach another monitor to my desktop VGC - LV1S

Thanks

Do you want a duplicate image over two monitors, or to be able to have 2 applications open, one on each screen?

Need to know this before anything else.

2 applications open, so you can drag an open window over the 2 screens.

Yeah ok.

There is no "adaptor" for that unfortunately, seeing as any adaptor will only duplicate the signal to two different plugs.

You will need a new Graphics Card with 2 outputs in order to do this.

EDIT*
Just followed your link, seeing as it's a Media Center with an onboard graphics "card", this is not really possible, because the output connections are physically attatched to the motherboard rather than the "card".

Sorry.

Actually I half take that back.

It has a single PCI-E slot, so you should be able to fit a card in there and switch over which one is used in the BIOS.

I'll see if I can find a PCI-E card with two outputs..

*
TBH I don't know if such a thing exists, PCI-E x16 cards are most commonplace, but thinking about it now I've never heard of a PCI-E card.. which is the only type of spare slot you have..

I now take that back as well!

(I've found one:
Amazon.com: HIS H155HMF256EL1N-R Radeon X1550 512MB HyperMemory (256MB (64bit) DDR2 onboard) PCIe Dual Link DVI Low Profile PCIe 1x(RoHS): Computers & PC Hardware Amazon.com: HIS H155HMF256EL1N-R Radeon X1550 512MB HyperMemory (256MB (64bit) DDR2 onboard) PCIe Dual Link DVI Low Profile PCIe 1x(RoHS): Computers & PC Hardware
)

I know you wern't expecting to have to buy much extra, do you have a tight budget or anything?

That's going to be horrible latency especially with any decent size display.

If the system has a PCI-Express slot, it's probably full x16, and therefore you can probably fit any low-profile PCI-E card in. Something like a 8400GS should be cheap and work fine.

Sorry guys, i don't quite understand what you're talking about in all the Computer jargon

i do apologise!

So, would the latency be such a problem that it woukd be hard to watch a dvd you say?

Latency = delay.

I guess, with a DVD, sound and video may be out of sync.
