Default Which AGP card? 7900GS vs X1950Pro vs HD3850

hey guys, i bought my cousin old pc off him since he got a new pc and he was gonna bin the old one,so its a s478 celeron 2.30ghz oc'd to 2.8ghz its safe enough for now(its a new cpu his since old cpu blown), 1gb pc3200 RAM , Ge-Force 6200 256mb "PCI", and a Trust 420W PSU. i notice he had a AGP 4X slot and the 6200 pci is really slow since it old and its a pci aswell so i'm think of getting a new graphics card, the 7900GS is 256mb GDDR3 for £55 and the x1950Pro is 512mb GDDR3 aswell but its £65 both off aria, i'm wondering which one to get. the 7900 performs close to the x1950 but the x1950 is 512mb, also i saw the HD3850 512mb GDDR3 agp on scan but considering my agp slot is 4x and my cpu is a huge bottleneck and it is £20 more than both of the cards so maybe not.. also my friend recommended me the hHD600XT 512mb GDDR3 £58 from scan again but its no where near the 7900GS performance levels... hope you can help me which one to get i'm hoping to play cod4 on med-high setting and crysis on low-med settings

I would go with the X1950 although im not sure which model you are looking at! XT/GT/Pro/XTX
But the 1950pro was in competition with the 7900GT not the GS

But if you are going to use Vista then you may want DX10 which the 3850 would handle

Seconding X1950 but CPU will be a _massive_ bottleneck.

Hi don't know if this will be to late for you but I have just bought an X1950 PRO for an AGP slot and my 500w PSU doesn't appear to be 'man enuff' for the job, it's a great card as I have tested it at work with some success but it is V. hungry. I heard that it requires 30A on the 12v rail. Hope this helps

Hi Mate, I think that the A on the 12v supply is more important than the total wattage, I'm no expert but I've seen a few 'cheap' 600w PSU's that only give 10~12A on the 12v rail and I think that would not be enuff. I'm looking very closely at which one I buy but Eclipse Computers actually recomended this one which was £2 cheaper than the one I had asked them about

http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...x?code=PS-X750.

Don't recall where you are geographically but I'm in the UK and have bought good stuff from Eclipse computers before.

Hope this helps.

yeah that's exactly the kind of thing you want to stay away from

even a non-name brand PSU is bad, much less a generic. the first sign is not having two PCI-E connectors on a "700w" PSU.

go with a corsair 450W
