I'm looking very closely at which one I buy but Eclipse Computers actually recomended this one which was £2 cheaper than the one I had asked them about

Don't recall where you are geographically but I'm in the UK and have bought good stuff from Eclipse computers before.

Hope this helps.

That one, I can absolutely 100% guarantee that it is total junk. Period.

Get yourself a decent name brand PSU (OCZ, Antec, Coolermaster, Corsair) of about 500 - 600 Watt.

It should cost £50 to £60 but it is money well spent.

Anything cheaper is just not worth buying and will probably end up blowing up the rest of the stuff in your case.

And any store that would recommend that PSU I would stay well away from. For a decent system, you want a decent PSU, especially if you require those watts.

A decent PSU of 350W will match a nasty cheap 550W easily.

A good choice:

even a non-name brand PSU is bad, much less a generic. the first sign is not having two PCI-E connectors on a "700w" PSU.

go with a corsair 450W
Thanks Carbon, that is exactly why I hate Saleman, They didn't answer my questions about amperage on the 12v rails, just recommended that one, with no reason given, although I would have sent it back as 'Not fit for Purpose' if it didn't work, it's still a pain to have to do that. I have seen a few OCZ and the like but my current PSU was supposed to be 500w when I bought it and it's not good enuff under load. Although it could be faulty I suppose. Is there any way to test it?

The easiest way to test a power supply without harming your best machine is to test it on an older one, or just plug in a few components such as a couple of fans The only problem with that suggestion is a few fans doesn't put it under too much load, and using it on any computer is a bad idea if its faulty in the first place. I'd say the best thing you could do is could avoid bad quality power supplies altogether. I like using this guide for picking out a good power supply.
