Default AGP graphics not showing POST

I have a Fujitsu Siemens D1625A motherboard which I got secondhand to practise building with. I could never get the agp graphics to work ( no onboard graphics) so I used a PCI graphics card which works. I have now fitted a card into the AGP slot and it works as an extension. I can run two monitors with an extended desktop. I have set the AGP card to main and the PCI as the extension but the AGP still works as an extension even though it has the desktop. When the computer starts the AGP card only starts at the welcome screen. It shows no POST nor XP splash screen. The PCI does show POST even though it does not have the desktop. If I remove the PCI card and run only the AGP it still does not show POST and starts at the welcome screen and then works normally. I would like to get the AGP working if I can as two monitors on a machine of this spec is overkill. Does anyone know what is happening.

Sounds like you have "fast boot" enabled in the BIOS?

Hi mcbee
Two things may be happening one is a bios slip, that system is old enough that the bios may have failed if so then the default graphics slot may be changed now. The bios should have a section to allow your primary boot graphics to be AGP or PCI/Onboard, make sure it is AGP, second you may have a bad AGP slot, if so another RMA may be need, is the Motherboard still on warranty ? .

Cattranz you were right. The setting was PCI/AGP, I changed it to AGP/PCI and it didn't want to know (would not boot). Looks like the AGP slot is at fault. Got this mobo for £10 to experiment with. Works perfectly with dual cards and dual monitors with extended desktop. If I want to return to one monitor it works well with the PCI card,
