I would go for the 9800gx2, but only because I like Nvidia, however I'm not sure why I like them, I just do, but they also are ahead with in the competition.

The 3870X2 is about 100bucks or so cheaper than the 9800GX2
Here are a few benchmark results for you to compare

They are both great cards, the 9800 steal it these days with better drivers
But I would just go for the 3870 as it is cheaper and only performs slightly less than the 9800

Neither really, SW's benchmarks point it out. Dual-GPUs don't scale well.

If you've got deep pockets then id go with Nvidia but i doubt you'd experience a noticeable difference between either performance wise.
