Hello everyone,

Here's the facts:
Yesterday received ATI Radeon 9250 to install in emachines T4010.
Read about potential problems with installation, so I made sure to disable the onboard video driver (Intel 82865G Graphics controller) in Windows Safe Mode. I installed the card , booted directly into BIOS, changed the video config to PCI, saved changes, shut down computer, switched the monitor connection to the new card, then put in the CD-ROM, which says ATI Catalyst. Have been unable to get past the "INF Error... Video Driver not Found... Setup was unable to complete installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup." Meanwhile, screen messages keep popping up trying to reinstall the Intel controller. (There's also an "Intel Pro Network Adaptors and Drivers", but when I delete that I can't get onto the internet, so I assume that must remain.)

Have taken apart and put the thing back together about 6 different times with no luck. Then went to support at AMD website, which took me to "737-20870: How to Install your ATI Product". Went through all those steps. Got to the point where I was to download their software, and became very nervous when it directed me to close my live anti-virus/firewall/remote software before attempting to install the ATI download. (I didn't). Got more nervous when the security warning showed the publisher as "Unknown", instead of "ATI Technologies Inc." The download is there, but I am unable to open it.

I know the hardware was installed correctly because the Intel website detected the ATI Radeon 9250 series. Just don't know how to get the driver/software to be right. Was up until 2 a.m. reading posts and trying to get this to work right. (Have also read about doing a cleaning out of old drivers, but also how that can really mess up your system.) Am ready to ship the darn thing back, unless someone can help me out here. This is a last resort. Thanks.

If you can see the screen, look for the old Intel device in Device Manager and see if you can disable it, restart and Windows will attempt to install basic VGA for the Radeon if it's detected in Device Manager as well. Also, don't worry about the popups, open the drivers you downloaded and see if that fixes it.
