Just a question about the XFX - Doing a Google image search it has a 6 pin - 2 molex adapter. Did you have to use this on your card for power? I also had the adapter and had to use it or the card didn't work at all (needed both the 5v and 12v rails), or could you just connect it directly from your PSU?

you can connect it directly from the PSU if you have a 6 pin PCI-E connector, Infact, I advice it, the PCI-E if there are PCI-E connectors they will be better that "faking" one up.

Thingie, on this card I have (the 8600GTS 512MB version) you cannot. This was what I did first of all and the card doesn't work - it also caused it to blow 2 monitors.
With this card you HAVE to use the adapter - there is a piece of paper inside which says so - which is REALLY annoying!! This is what puts me off XFX cards. And the fact that on this card I can't change the fan speed. |

well that's strange, because the 8800GTX from XFX I got a while ago (then sold on because I wasn't using it) said the exact opposite. It said basicly "whatever you do, don't use a 4pin molex to 6 pin PCI-E converter" so it must just be that card, i don't get why though...

My PSU has a 6 pin power connection so I didn't need to use the adapter that came with the card. regarding the adapter it doesn't matter if you use it it will eventually work as long as your PSU has enough watt to support the card.

Great card. Overclocked mine to 725mhz, completely stable and virtually no rise in temps.
