Default Choosing a Graphics Card

Hi,

I'm purchasing an HP DV6000z with a Turion 64 X2 TL-64 (2.2 GHz, 512KB+512KB L2 Cache ) and 2GB of PC2 5300 RAM.

My options for a graphics card are
GeForce Go 6150 "w/ Additional Productivity Ports"
or
GeForce Go 7200 (for an extra $35.00).

I can't find a straightforward comparison of the two. Is the 7200 worth the extra $35?

Thanks in Advance,

Stainsor

Most definitely! the 6150 is a cheap excuse for a dedicated card. Then again, the 7200 is as well but it's miles ahead of the 6150, especially if you like to do multi-media work or graphics editing. I'm not sure if you can manage to do any games on either card, but you'll have a better chance with the 7200.

Hi Stainsor.

A good indicator of performance differences can be found simply by looking at the model numbers when it comes to graphic solutions. Betta's absolutely correct in advising you go for the 7200.

I'm assuming this is a laptop spec you're quoting.

Both the cards you've quoted are dedicated but do draw on your system ram as well. This process is called 'Turbocache' Unfortunately doing this slows the card down as using it's own dedicated ram is much quicker.

The 6150 isn't really suited to gaming but I have the 7200 in my HP Laptop and can run Command and Conquer Generals, albeit without any detail settings on.

Also, as they're both dedicated solutions you'll see a battery-life drop over an integrated solution such as the ubiqutous GMA950 resident in a lot of laptops.

Either though is a good balance for the cpu you've quoted.

I believe the 7200 does have a little bit of it's own dedicated RAM but can draw on system RAM as well; whereas the 6150 uses system RAM alone? Correct me if I'm wrong, Alex.
