Default Computer making strange screeching sound

This just started yesterday and I don't know why. For some reason, my computer makes this small little screeching sound continuously, even when I have the mute button on.

But even when I have headphones plugged in or the monitor volume on mute, the noise doesn't stop, although it is much quieter.

I unplugged the monitor and the sound stoppped. If it was the fan, it would still make noise right?

So, do I need new speakers? Or a whole new monitor? Or something more?

And why did this happen in the first place?

Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks for any help.

Where is the noise coming from?

The monitor. The noise is louder when I put my ear up to it and when I turn the volume up via the monitor it gets much louder.

Also, I touched the power thing that connects the monitor to the computer and it was really hot. I unplugged it and left it unplugged all night, but the screeching sound still continues.

I would get it looked at by an electrician, sounds dangerous.
