Hello everyone, hope someone can help. I have a 3 year old DELL 17" TFT monotor model E172FBP and the problem is as follows:

The computer boots fine but the monitor only displays a picture for about 1-2 seconds then goes black. The power switch still displays green. I turn the monitor off and back on again and the same picture for about 1-2 seconds then a black screen. The computer is OK as I have 2 DELL PCs and the other monitor works fine on both PCs.

Does anyone know who makes these for DELL and what the part(s) I need are.

Thanks in anticipation.

Unless you're any good at component level fault finding and repair I'd recommend simply replacing it with a new one.

Hello Dave and thanks for your reply. I was wondering about getting hold of a Dell monitor with a smashed screen and go from there. There isn't too much to these things - inverter, backlight boards etc. Have you never seen this fault before? Cheers.

These types of fault are very common, although I don't know specifically what is causing it.

Hi,

It sounds like a problem with the inverter, which supplies power to the high-voltage flourescent tubes which illuminate the display.

I had a Dell E173FP apart, and the internal components were clearly marked as being manufactured by Benq.

Unless you're handy with repairs, you might prefer to entrust the work to a service centre, or buy a new monitor.

Yes Thanks indeed Kevin. Very handy info. I am up to scratch at component fitting/removal. I will look for a Benq 17" monitor. Don't happen to know which model to look for or are all the inverters the same. Could it also be the backlight is on its way out?. Thanks again.
