I run dual monitors, my main being a viewsonic VG2230wm(22"wide) and another viewsonic VA2012wb(20" wide). Both of which can run 1680x1050. Problem
I run dual monitors, my main being a viewsonic VG2230wm(22"wide) and another viewsonic VA2012wb(20" wide). Both of which can run 1680x1050. Recently, whenever I restart my computer, the 22" doesn't run the correct resolution and instead maxes out at a pathetic 1024x768 whereas the 20" has no problems running 1680x1050 - this rules out the vid card being the problem (PNY Overclocked nVidia 8800GTX). Current Troubleshooting Once this problem arises with an incorrect resolution, I go behind my computer and swap DVI ports on the vid card which usually fixes the problem but I have to re-enter into settings to extend and enable the 2nd monitor again (tedious but works). I have done this extensively with both DVI ports so I know it's not a bad DVI port and also because it only happens with that 22", where the 20" runs fine. Since then, I've also reformatted my hard drive (vista home 32bit) due to other problems I was having that just made me take it to the extent of reformat. And, to my surprise after re-installing all the motherboard drivers (evga 780i SLi), the video card drivers, window vista updates, it STILL does it. Answer (What I think) I really just think the monitor needs to be replaced but I would like to have my conclusion reaffirmed by you all, of course. Thanks for your feedback and your time, much appreciated! |

Check your Graphics Drivers are Up to Date Check that the DVI Cables are the same (shouldnt matter but sometimes the difference in speeds may make a difference)

All drivers are up to date, DVI cables seem to be okay and identical. I was thinking that MAY be it as well, but even if DVI cables were the problem, it wouldn't be showing this type of issue. And I mean, it used to work just fine like 1-2 months ago and nothing has really changed since then so I'm just stumped. Maybe i'll get lucky and the monitor has a hidden warranty lol.
