Default DVI cables

Ok, well I've been wondering about this for a while and I should probably know.

What's the difference between DVI-D and DVI-I? and which should I be using for my monitor? Because I am using one (DVI-D i think but I can't find anywhere that it says) and would like to know if I am using the right one or not and what would happen if I used the wrong one.

Thanks

Default DVI cables

Basically DVI-I the I stands for integrated which means it will support both Digital and Analouge signals and will work with both digital and analouge monitors/graphics cards.

DVI-D the D stands for Direct or sometimes Digital so it will only support a digital signal.

If your uncertain which one to get then buy DVI-I. However most monitors have full digital support nowdays anyway. So DVI-D is probably jus as likely

DVI-D allows for digital only signal transmission. However, DVI-I allows for digital or analog signals to pass over this cable/connector. You could have a VGA connector on one end of a cable and a DVI-I connector on the other and transmit an analog signal to the display. You could also have a DVI-I or DVI-D connector on one end and transmit a digital signal. The DVI-D male connector will connect/transmit with a DVI-I female. The DVI-D female connector will not connect/transmit with the DVI-I male.
