Default Fan problems with my XFX card

Hi guys,

Having some problems with my XFX 8600GTS 512MB graphics card. Recently (last month maybe) it has been SO NOISY!! As in, stupidly noisy getting worse and worse and at the moment it's just rediculous. So loud it can still be heard (if you listen) over our hoover in the same room!

The Nvidia program won't let me change the fan speed, if I try and drag the slider and click apply it just says that the settings could not be applied, Rivatuner doesn't do anything and I can't think of what else to do!

Took it out earlier, cleaned all the dust out but it's still the same.

Anyone got any ideas?

No hardware has change since the build was first built nearly a year ago.

Cheers

Tom

How old is it? Sounds like the bearings could be gone, time for a new fan.

Yea, I agree with Dave, sounds like a bearing has gone, if it's within Warranty you can probably send it back to be replaced.

It's less than a year old - surely bearings can't be gone already?

How long will it take to get sorted if it's away? Becuase that means I then don't have a computer until I get it back.

it's possible for them to go that soon if they were faulty when it was manufactured. As for how long it will take, it will vary depending on how busy XFX are, take a look through their website, it should say somewhere how long you are expected to wait for an RMA result.

Spoke to them on the phone and apparently I have to send it back to where I got it, dabs.com, and they will send it back to XFX. However the only option available from dabs at the moment is a refund.

Well with a refund, you could get another card of the same, or better. It might also be faster as payment will probably arrive within about a week, and RMA can take a month or so.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking - I am of course without a computer for that length of time though until I get the money back and buy a new card.
