Default Geforce 6200 blackout problems

hi, i recently bought a geforce 6200 agp and installed into my msi v class mobo, after eventualy getting it to work it has recently started playing up, when idling the screen will occasionaly go black and then come back on, when playing games (battlefront 2, battlefield 2,call of duty) ...

hi, i recently bought a geforce 6200 agp and installed into my msi v class mobo, after eventualy getting it to work it has recently started playing up, when idling the screen will occasionaly go black and then come back on, when playing games (battlefront 2, battlefield 2,call of duty) the computer will lock up and sometimes automaticaly restart, when windows loads it tells me the system has recovered from a critical error and error reporting tells me that the graphics card stopped responding. please help

ps. i have the latest drivers installed

xp sp2
2.6ghz celeron d
512mb ram
msi v class mobo
geforce 6200

Hmmm...

It sounds like the card is over heating, if you computer is restarting it is usually "bsod'ing", It would help if you could get the STOP error code.

To do this, go to control panel >> system >> click the advanced tab >> then click settings for startup and recovery, then uncheck the box which says automatically restart. The you will be able to see the BSOD and get the error code.

Also try reaseating the card see if that helps.

ok, ive disabled the automatic restart option, ive been runing the computer with the side pannels off and have been checking the temp of the stock heatsink, when playing games you cant touch it, its that hot, is that whats causing the blackouts?

any ideas on an aftermarket cooling system?

If the GPU heatsink is too hot to touch then yes that will most likely be causing the blackouts and restarts. As for the cooling system im not too sure, because if the card doesnt come with a heatsink it shouldnt need one. But as i said im not sure.
