Default GeForce 8800GT (new) vs 8800GTS 640MB

Hello all,

Can someone advise which is the better graphics card the GeForce 8800GT 512MB (New version) or the slightly older 8800 GTS 640MB Extreme.

I've just ordered the 8800GT version but the supplier sent me the 8800GTS version

System:
Athlon XP64 +3500
1GB Ram

Thanks

Its a bit of a heated debate as to which card is better. The 8800GT seems to benchmark slightly higher. The availability in this country for one makes it quite hard to find thats probably why they sent you a GTS.

Other people may have different opinions??

Personally I would stick with the GTS simply because the GTS's double slot design cooler blows the hot air out of the rear of the case (were it sould go), as apposed to the slingle slot design of the GT which leaves the hot air in the case.

Not good in my opinion as these cards get hot (around the 70 deg C mark at idle) and all that nice hot air is floating arround inside the case!

As far as performance goes in most cases there's not a great deal of difference.

GT's probably better overall, but you're fine either way.

the GT is 2% slower than the old GTX. the old GTS is about 6-7% if not more slower. the GT runs on the faster, more efficient, less power consuming, less heat generating G92 core. the GT cost less then a 640MB GTS and it is soooo much better! i have had both and i must say the GT impresses me by a ton.

The difference in performance is minute. I'd be happy with either of them, as there's not much point in selling one just to get the other.
