Default Graphic card compatibility

Hi,

I was wondering if any graphic card is compatible with any motherboard? I use Windows XP. I have an ASUS A8N-VM/NBP with an intergrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150B GPU, and an AMD Athlon 64 3200+. I've got a PCI x16 slot and was wondering if any PCI graphics card would work?

Thanks

Yea, aslong as there is the right connector type (PCI-E etc) and you have a power supply that is powerful enough, and has the right connectors depending on the GFX card, any card should work.

If you open the case you should see something like this:

You see the box looking thing in the top left? that's the PSU. If you look on the side of it it will have a table lokking a little like this:

can you take a picture of it, host it (at somewhere like imageshack.us) then post a link to it here.

Ok, well it seems, if you want to get a graphics card (that is worth getting) you will need a new PSU as well as that one doesn't pump out much juice on the 12V rails.

Well it's probably easier to just recommend a PSU, the one I would recommend for you, would be the Corsair 450W, it's a very good PSU, and isn't too expensive either.

Ok, but wouldn't too much power burn out my computer, would 450W work? Also Concerning graphics cards which one do you recommened that also isn't too expensive (like £30-35)? And would my motherboard be compatible with 512mb or more graphic cards?

Thanks

You can't have too much power for your PSU, as it only puts out what is required, so even if you get a 10KW PSU, but your system only wants 1W, the PSU will only put out 1W of power (the numbers are very extreme, and you can't get PSU's that high, nor do systems draw that little, ever, it was just an example)

At that budget, I would say, it's probably not worth upgrading yet, you want to spend a minimum of about £70 I would say to make it worth it (a 9600GT)

The motherboard doesn't matter about how much RAM there is on the gfx card.
