Default graphics card with power issues??

im dave im new to the forum, so hey people :)
anyway i planning a huge upgradw with my pc and the other day i bought a radeon x1650 pro 512 mb agp card, fitted it and it works fine, but very disapointingly its really not much faster than my previous card a 256 mb radeon 9550 ( god it served me well lol), i am wondering, well more hoping that it is performing poorly because i am only using a 250 watt power supply and ATI reccomend a 400 watt, so is it running slower than it should be because of this?, i have bought a 500 watt psu it just hasnt arrived yet, but in the reviews i read this card was playing games like oblivion at around 50 fps with hi settings and AA and AF

Hmmm I doubt the PSU would be slowing it down. It would either run it or not. But it may help.

Have you got all the latest drivers for it?

What OS do you have?

On another note, Oblivion is massively gpu intensive. Unless you're going for a very low resolution you're going to have to compromise on the AA/AF considering the gpu you have to achieve even playable framerates, let alone 50+.

The X1650 was not manufactured and designed during ATI's finest hour.

The extra 256mb ram over a stock 1650 won't help with AA either as the card simply doesn't have the grunt to use it.

Bit of an open statement there CW.

Nivia also produce low end and mid range gpu's. So even with one of these he'd probably have the same issue's I mentioned.

It will certainly help but the limiting factor is going to be the gpu.
