Default Graphics card selection

Morning all

I am recently in search of a new graphics card. Problem is i have no idea where to start, what my motherboard will take, how many sizes of graphics card there are in physical size and what the max speed of graphics card my computer can take is.

Any help on how to find this would be quite helpful and any recommended graphics cards would be appreciated.

I think if you could answer a few questions it would be helpfull.

Do you know what motherboard (make+model) you have?

What's your budget?

Do you use XP or Vista, and do you play the latest demanding games or the slightly older ones?

Also, what case.

Some, actually a lot, of cases won't fit a 8800GTX/Ultra as an example.

Good point Alex.

Although if his budget stretched to even blink towards an 8800GTX/Ultra, I'm sure he'd have enough for a new case :)

Now you've brought that up, do you know the model of your PSU? As this may have to be replaced to power your new GFX card.

Errrrr the make is Microstar, not sure of the model (MS 72 i think... will check). And god knows what the case is. Its an EI Systems 5023 tower with its stock case which is a large ungainly grey thing. Not a clue about the power supply either. i only know it has noise killer on it. Will check when i get home about the model and things.

Budget can go to about £100 at the moment if i pushed. not sure if this is really good or dreadful lol.

i want to play the newer games but my pc struggles with running UT 2004 on lowest settings because my crummy onboard chipset struggles to display XP....
Currently using an Intel 82865G chipset which is great for anything except gaming.
