So you would rather buy a new graphics card then a PSU?

Why?

PSUs are cheap as chips.

You could probably get an adaptor for your current PSU which would be even cheaper.

Wow, what a effort that was to read!
A 305w PSU for that kind of card is a bit weak anyway, I think the card alone uses over 100w of power in its self, you can buy molex to pci-e converter, but I would advise you to buy a new PSU
I'm not sure what other components you have, but 305w in this day and age just isn't enough

Hi Mark.

Firstly, good choice of card. As you've stated you've no molex's coming out of your psu (are you sure?) then you can't get a molex-6pin pci-e converter as someone else stated.

There are pci-e cards that don't need the 6 pin cable and are purely powered by the pci-e port. But this is because they're not as powerful as the card you have (or any card that requires the 6pin).

It'll be cheaper (and more beneficical) to purchase a better, more powerful psu. If you need any help on that give us a shout.

Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to read my cryptic msg..sorry about that, I had created it in Works and it didnt copy very well....anyway the main q I was asking was...

Are there any pci-e graphics cards out there that don’t need to be connected directly to the poer supply, that will work with a 305w power supply & Windows Vista and run HL2 & Fear on med/high settings?

I can get a refund on my graphics card and get a different one...im not keen on paying more for a power supply and dont know how to fit one...not too bothered about having a lesser card as long as it works....

Yeah its stupid that I get such a crap PSU with the PC, daft

Yeah im positive about no molex connectors...theres nothing its wierd...just another thing to connect a cd drive to I think.

Does a 7600gt need connecting to a PSU?

Thanks again for all the replies

Ah I see, that would explain it, sorry for being rude, I thought you were being deliberate.

As for the card if you can get a refund and swap, that changes things.

As Alex said the cards without the plug are normally lower spec but I'm sure he can recommend something if you really want to go down that route.

Cheers.

Dave.

7600GT is a good choice, it's not as powerful as the Pro you purchased, but it ain't half bad for the money.

And no, you don't need a pci-e connector.
