Default Has my monitor died?

It's a farely old crt monitor called the Gateway2000 Vivitron. Now the problem is it is displaying very dark and faded colors which are not tolerable. I can sometimes get it to go back to the original brightness and quality by giving it a smack on the side. Lately even the smack on the side can not get it looking right. If anybody has more information about this type of monitor problem I would be thankful of your response.

Definately sounds like it.

What you've put suggests either (or both) a contrast loss in the tube and/or one or more of the guns going.

Default Has my monitor died?

Yea , are there any worms or viruses that are capable of producing this kind of result? Although I doubt it's the cause because whenever I smacked the monitor on the side it was going to back to normal. However the smacking technique has failed me at this point.

Any comments / info about these kind of issues is highly appreciated.

Peace

Can't see this being a virus, non I've heard of will do this. Smack on the side is a bit of a giveaway. try pulling all the leads and refitting them but I think it's shot.

I think now you have a very good excuse to go treat yourself to a widescreen LCD...
