Default HD monitor

So i finally bought a HD cable and hooked up my HD 22inch widescreen monitor.

So here im sitting, not noticing a slight of difference. I've upped the rezolution to as high as it can go ( in terms of right clicking on desktop way ) which is 1920x1080

And when i put it that high it just hurts my eyes. Words are slightly smaller and fuzzy.

Any problems i might be having?

HDMI - HDMI cables with a HDMI - Dvi-D thingy for my graphics card.
Just using one cable to connect the monitor to the graphics card. HDMI
