Hi
I'm currently having some problems in trying to connect my 2 monitors to my PC. I know both monitors are working fine as i tried that with my other pcs with dual monitor. So with this PC, I can connect 1 monitor fine to it and both works in that condition but when i connect both same time, only 1 monitor has signal (and takes long time to get the signal), other monitor is displaying "no signal". I have configured the required settings in windows through display settings and also through my graphics card control panel. Using a Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT so i'm sure that allows dual output as on it, it has 2 DVI slots. Also - through the graphics card control panel, it does pick up that the PC is connected to both monitors becuase it displays the 2 monitors in the control panel.. *both monitors are VGAs so i'm using VGA - DVI convertor thingie. Although my 2 convertor thing works when i try to do it with 1 mon, they (VGA - DVI convertor) are different with different pins (1 has more than the other) so i'm not sure if that's the problem? Or could it be something else like the actual DVI slots is not working or i'm just missing a step in the process Any ideas? |

Mine was a pain too.

You just have to keep fiddling, drivers, change the dual option (Dual-view is probably the one you want) etcetera etcetera. Not that helpful I know, but I can't really pinpoint and tell you exactly the problem. My System: FordyPC

Are you sure you have both monitors enabled? Right click the desktop>properties>settings and select the second monitor, then make sure the "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" box is ticked. (this is for XP, but should be similar for Vista I think) if it is ticked, try swapping over the displays into the other gfx card output, and check which monitor works there.

I know what might be the problem. Right click the monitor that doesn't have a signal in the Display control panel and click Attached.

Hi there.
yeah i've done the check "extend to ....." and it doesn't work. But i'm not sure about your suggested attach method as that seems to me that it performs the same functionality to the "extend to...." cheers |

It doesn't. They're completely separate things.

Nope it doesn't work. Like i said, what i expected, the "attached" is linked to "extend to desktop". Both provide same functionality where :
if i uncheck "extend..." the attached will be unticked. And vice versa So essentially they both are linked |

No, they're completely separate as I said. You can't extend a desktop to a monitor that isn't attached, so it's unchecked, but you can choose to extend a desktop to a monitor that is or isn't attached. Just because certain options are dependent on each other doesn't mean they do the same thing. Telling the system there is a device attached and telling it to enable a specific option are completely different things and saying they're the same thing is analogous to saying that messing around with the volume controls and installing a sound card through Add/Remove is exactly the same thing.

Ok now i'm totally confused.
This is what i see in my display setttings window: - the "extend desktop to monitor" is checked (on both monitors) - when i right click on the second monitor, the "attached" option is ticked. if i unitick that, the "extend dektop to monitor" is unchecked & vice versa So what do i need to do now to get it attached if you insist its not attached? although i can see clearly the checkbox is checked for "extend desktop..." and is ticked for "attached" |

In addition to what i said:
i can move my mouse and apps over to the right; way off screen; having the feeling the monitor is actually extending desktop, however the monitor is not picking up the signal. so then which makes me think whether my difference in convertor pins maybe causing the problems or is it down to the hardware roots of the actual DVI slots. |
