So long as it matches up to your motherboard, should be fine, you need to check what voltage cards your MOBO supports, and buy a card to match.

At what resolution does a 8600GT run FSX only 3fps less than an Ultra? 640x480? FSX is extremely gpu intensive, why'd you think they keep patching it?

15-25fps is barely playable on any game. 25fps should be the bare minimum or the stuttering (for want of a better word) becomes so intrusive it detracts from the gaming experience.

I've played FSX (badly) at 1440x900, 1280x800, 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 and I can promise you, you need a very good gpu to enable good frame rates AND good detail settings along with, as you mentioned, a good cpu.
Check this out its my proof; a 8600GTS vs. a 8800ULTRA (blue bars) http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=854&chart=291

Can I ask how much a quad core cpu + 8800 / decent gfx card + 2+RAM PC would be?
I'm contemplating buying a new computer, but have no idea on price ranges.

I currently have a Celeron CPU 2.4ghZ single (i think) with 1gig RAM and a nvidia geforce 5500 fx. So very average.
