When I purchased this Acer AST180-UD400B I assumed the PCIE in the spec's was 16X. Recently installed Rivatuner and the diagnostics show 16X supported, 8X selected. I searched thru the Bio's could not find any way to adjust this setting. I'm not very tech aware, but I'm trying. Any Acer owners out there familiar with adjusting this setting. Any help is appreciated. I just got a EVGA 8800GT SC and don't want to waste any of its juice.

OS: Vista home basic SP 1
CPU: AMD 64 X2 4000+
GPU: EVGA 8800GT SC 174.74
RAM: 2GB DDR2 533
PSU: 500W Antec Smartpower 2.0
SC: Creative SB X-FI Xtreme Gamer
Started out as a Acer T180 UD400B
MB: Acer EM61SM/EM61PM

Everything is at stock settings, like I said I just know enough to be dangerous, so I left everything AS IS.I'm playing Frontline FOW COD4 BF2142 and BF2 all on high, so I sure would like to see what 16X would look like.

Thanks but that 8800 is already installed. I have a few details to add:

Sys. Bios version 6.00 PG
SMBIOS version 2.3
Sys. Bios ID R01-B1

When I looked in the Bios the only setting related to PCIE was this title.

PCI Express relative items
maximum payload size
the available settings were: 128/256/512/1024/2048/4096
it was set at 4096 and there was nothing higher. I don't know if this is my MB only way to set the PCIE multiplier or what.
Could it be that Acer was to cheap to make a MB with 16X, is it true that an 8X slot is the same as a 16X slot and it's less complex to mfg. I just wonder if there is no 16X setting to change to with this EM61SM/EM61PM motherboard ? Is this one of those prices I have to pay for not having the smarts or drive to make my own rig, hope not but would not be surprised.

That's probably the problem. However, some have two slots - one slot is X16 and the other runs at X8. Is your motherboard dual-PCI-E? If so, try moving your card to the other slot and reboot.

Hmm..then short of calling the manufacturer and asking what's going on, looks like you might be out of luck. NewEgg says you have x16, but...nothing in BIOS -> something's wrong.
