Default Help me choose my graphics card....

hey guys, no comment from me in awhile but got a question for you?

i have my new rig and its in my little sigy thingy, and i'm still on the onboard graphics, was wandering if anyone could help me find a half decent graphics card to start playing Command and conquer 3: tiberium wars: kane edition, at a decent pace with decent detail, and to also support aero smoothly, i can do it at the moment but c & D is painfully so when it uses the settings it first picked.

also would anyone be able to choose a card that could also support racer driver: Grid, for when i get it.

p.s. due to the lay out of my board, any pci-e X16 will not fit in if its more then around 50mm longer then the card slot, so no hair dryers attached to the end of the card.

Just so you know what sort of card you need, I have an ATI HD3850 and it runs C&C3: kane edition on full (I think, only 2 or 4x AA though I think (it's been a while since i've played it)) so anything atleast as good as that should be fine. Not sure about Grid though.

ok thanks for the link carbon, not helpful to me, need to know if the card is reliable and runs cool most of the time, and last awhile too.

thanks thingie2, helpful to know that at least one card but almost a 100 quid is a bit too expensive, but might consider in the future.

computer ruler, i suppose about 50 - 75 i can spend dont know if thats enough to be able to get a card that could possibly play COD4 as well and COD5 when it comes out, but reallly with race driver: Grid as well i think it covers COD4 at least, thats all i plan playing on ma pc for the moment, and dont really plan using graphics for anything esle, apart from viewing album art on itunes, but onboard can do that fine, plus using vista aero, that just needs a touch up.

Bubba for you 50mm is around 1.9685 inchs, as my phone tells me hehe, i will measure that length, from the the blank covers too where my SATA connectors are.

i forgot to mention earlier as well, that my memory modules are almost straight above my PCI-E slot, kinda in a north-eastly direction, so nothing tooo wide on the board towards this.

Where have you been looking? I got my card for about £50 (here is my card) and it has an aftermarket cooler so runs about 40C idle, haven't checked load temps. But according to Carbon's sticky it's not the best value out of the cards at this level, so you might want to choose others around the same level but cheaper.

Which is why I linked it.

I don't write things based on some other arbitrary list of criteria. If they're recommended there they're recommended for that reason.
