Default Help me please :) Asus driver installation problems.

During driver installation for my Asus EN9600GT graphics card (from both the drivers on the CD and the most recent driver from the ASUS website), the loading bar after accepting the legal agreement stops halfway and my screen goes black. If I wait long enough, sometimes a message comes up that says:

"The nv4_disp driver has stopped working normally..."

And then the screen becomes huge and the colors are reduced to very low quality. After restarting the computer, it was back to how it was, still with no drivers installed showing in the device manager, and I can go through the same problem all over again.

What do I do? It is not the power supply becase I have an Antec Neopower 650W, which is more than enough to support the card, and yes it is plugged into the card. My Dell Dimension E521 computer has 2 gigs of RAM, and it should be able to support this card.

Is it possible there is still something from my older graphics card, the Nvidia 7300 LE, that is interfering even though I uninstalled its driver before putting in my new one? Does my monitor need new drivers?

I'm a bit of a newbie at computers as this is my first replacement of a video card. What do I do?

I REALLY thought that would do it and I was so hopeful. Same thing happened when trying to download the Nvidia GeForce Release 178, the screen went black for a while and then crazy screen with the "The nv4_disp driver has stopped working normally..." message came up.

Rightio, try this
Download THIS, install it
Uninstall Nvidia stuff again with add/remove, restart in safe mode by pressing F8 during boot, Run Driver Cleaner pro, tick "select multiple cleaning filters" add nvidia and nvidia wdm, run that twice, then reboot and try the drivers again
Hopefully that will work!!!!

Tried that, didn't work either. We also tried switiching which plug from the power supply was in the card, it still did the same thing.

We concluded that perhaps the card is defective. Does this sound like a reasonable conclusion? We are sending the card back for a replacement.

Hold on, just figured something out. The box says it needs a 400w power supply with a (12V current rating of 26A), I looked on my 650w power supply and it says at 12V it is 19A. Is this causing it? What should I downgrade to?

I don't kow if that's what's causing the error, but I would highly advise you to replace the PSU, go for something like the Corsair 400W unit, it produces 30A on the +12V rails and is powerful enough for most systems.

EDIT: I've just seen your PSU thread and as it's tri-railed it's not quite as bad, but go for a powerful single railed PSU next time.
