PCI-E is a method of communication and connection of devices to the motherboard.
There are now three main common connection interfaces along the lines of PCI-E. The first, used mainly by graphics cards, is AGP. It's a brown connection on the motherboard. It sends data in parallel. The next, is PCI, which is mainly used for other devices, such as sound card, USB expansion cards, etc. It too sends data parallel. The new computers on the market have MUUUUUCHHH higher clock speeds, and therefore for each second, more data is sent (not in terms of SIZE, but in terms of TIME between "clock cycle"). PCI-E (PCI Express) is a serial connection of sorts. More information is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pci-e |
