Default How to Overclock My Graphics Card in a Safe Way?

My system...

mobo:ASUS P5Q
cpu: Intel Q9550
ram: 2x2gb Corsair PC2-6400
video: MSI nvidia GeForce 8600gts (fanless)

i would like to overclock the videocard. Now i have a bios setting that can set the clock for the pci-express port, default at 100mhz overclocked till 180mhz. Since i dont consider myself experienced with this i would like to know what settings i could try out in a safe way or would i be safer with a program like n-tune that overclocks from the os, and what temperature monitoring software should i use to see how hot my fanless design goes.

That doesn't do anything.

Download Rivatuner and follow the instructions.

The "clock" you're looking at is for the port, not the card. You want to overclock the card, so rivatuner or ntune will be needed.
