Hopefully my title was fairly clear. I have no clue how I would go about doing this. What's clear to me is that I have to somehow connect the RCA cables into something that can either attach to my video card or my monitor somehow. The problem is I have no idea if there's a cable or a connector that will allow me to do this, let alone where to find something like this.

I'm also guessing that if it's going to connect into my video card, I'll either need to get some software, or configure my nvidia software to accept the incoming signal.

Can anyone clue me in on what I need, where to get it, and what to do?

Ive looked at that also wanting to hook my GC up to my monitor or computer. But I don't think there is anything you can do. You just got to use a tv unfortunately .

Get a HDMI -> DVI adapter for the console and a DVI switcher at Radio Shack. :)

would that allow me to specifically connect my gamecube to my monitor if i wished? or my ps2 for that matter? i'm only really unclear as to what the DVI switcher is/does. if it has something where i can plug in a few RCA cables, then i guess i'm good to go.

Oh, you mean component cables. Well, that'll be a little trickier. Basically, you'll need to get a DVI cable, one component cable -> DVI converter, then get a DVI switcher. Hook the DVI cable to your graphics card, hook the GameCube/PS2/Xbox whatever to the component cable -> DVI converter, then connect them both to the switcher and plug in the monitor to the other end of the switcher.

EDIT: Oh, I just re-read the OP. I was under the assumption you wanted to connect both the computer and the console to the same monitor and have it switch between inputs. If you just want to hook up the monitor by itself, just get the component cable -> DVI converter and connect both ends to it. :)

well, i'll at least give stock of what i have in terms of converters and cables. i've got at least 2 vga cables, a vga-dvi converter, a dvi-hdmi converter, and an s-video connection.

and in terms of component-dvi converter, the component connectors of the converter need to be female to accommodate the cables of the console. i've seen plenty of component-dvi converter cables, but they all have male connections.

and the switcher i have just no clue what to look for.

i apologize in advance if i'm being dense, but i'm just clueless when it comes to this stuff. would you mind helping me find these parts?

if you can even find them sold at a retail outlet somewhere, i'll kneel at your feet.

Alright, I looked around for an answer to this dilemma, because I wasn't seeing any composite -> VGA/DVI things under $200 or so, and here's the problem. Component is analog, DVI is digital. To go from Component -> VGA or Component -> DVI requires an expensive converter box..which is a problem. Even with the box I hear the quality is terrible due to the different resolutions.

If you're running a 360 or PS3, that's really why these have HDMI outputs. Unfortunately, last-gen consoles weren't really made for this sort of thing because of their analog outputs.

the quality is terrible for certain video cards from what i heard. it depends on the card you have...but it's just getting more and more disheartening as i pursue this.

interestingly enough, i found a converter made by ATI that goes directly from component to vga or to dvi. can't remember which. but since it was made by them, it's ATI only, and only for specific cards.

http://www.svideo.com/hdtvaiwr8500.html

i wish nvidia would make it that simple for their users...

but this is just getting too expensive and the lengths it looks like i have to go to just to perform something like this is absolutely ridiculous. there's no way i'm shelling out between 60 and 100 dollars for some silly converter box. if it were maybe 20 bucks i'd consider it, but it's entirely not worth it. for the price i'm paying for that stupid converter, i could just go out and buy a cheap-ass tv to play gamecube on.
