Default I'm having a problem connecting my pc to my tv

Hi Everyone, nice forum!

I really don't know what could be the problem, because I've done this a few years ago and then it worked perfectly, now I get nothing.
My graphic card is Ati Radeon 9600SE. This is the same card I have used years ago for connecting it to my tv. I was able to watch my PC's monitor and TV at the same time. I can make a connection using RCA cables, it was bought from a store, brand new and it's 5 meter long. The other cable I used before, was about 3m. The RCA cable is not faulty, because I've tested it with my camera and receiver. When I tried to make the connection again last summer, I noticed the picture quality is zero, so I bought this new cable I mentioned previously. But till nothing.
Although my computer detects the TV and installs the drivers, I get nothing. I have even downloaded the latest drivers for my monitor (17" Samsung-SyncMaster 793DF). Well I get something on the Tv screen. The background is black and I can see windows jumping up and down on the screen. Sometimes it stops doing it but the picture is very distorted and colors wont show up, well once in a while I can see colors, but very little of them and are awful. Most of the times I cant see anything, just white lines moving up&down the screen.
If anyone has any ideas, please help me, because I'm trying this for 6 months and no luck. Almost nothing changed in my PC's hardware since a few years ago, when I first connected the TV and PC together. I had only 256 mb ram memory, now I have 1gb, bought a satellite tv tuner card and a firewire card. But I've tried removing the cards, hoping something will change, but no.

Thanks.

No, it's the same TV set. I know how the picture should look like but it's nowhere similar to it.

I have changed the resolution to the lowest as possible, to 640X480 and now I get a better picture, but it's black&white. The screen is jumping up and down and it only stops doing it when a window or program is opened in the background. Sometimes colors began showing up, but are very distorted and don't last long. I just know that the problem is with configuring something on the computer I've missed.

I tried what you said, but no luck. It's still the same.
I think the computer is sending a weak signal to the TV, because colors are not showing up.

Should I change the refresh rate? I can choose from 40Hz to 120Hz. But I stop at 85Hz because I don't want my monitor to blow up.

Default I'm having a problem connecting my pc to my tv

Since I had no idea what could the problem be, I thought maybe theres some problem with the S-video cable. So I took the cable and went to the local store to test it if it's faulty, thought if theres anything wrong with it, I just buy a new one. But they said that the s-video cable is working with no problems.
Remember when I said that I'm out of ideas? Now I'm out of ideas. This was my last hope.

i can clearly remember what I did in the past to connect the pc and TV set together. The computer's resolution and refresh rate wasn't changed. I remembered this, because while a friend of mine was playing on the computer, I could watch the gameplay on the TV screen.
I just enabled the TV output under the Displays tab and there was picture, now I get nothing, or if I'm lucky I can see the screen in a very poor quality. As I move a window on my computer, the TV screen changes, but it's awful.
My pc is working, the cables are good, the TV is fine too. Have I skipped something?
Maybe a chip or something else on the graphic card has hampered?

Hi,

Not sure if you already found a solution to your problem but the reason why your cable is showing up only black & white image is taht the cable is of a low quality and does not take across the colour component of the image. It is the same with most scart leads & RCA leads. The cable is working properly & won't be faulty but it is not taking across colour component.
I recomend that you visit www.s-video.com & order a RCA cable from there, as they are specially designed for PC to TV transmission & carry acroos colour & audio.

Hope this helps,

Shuja.
