Hey guys i'm hoping someone is smart enough to fix this problem. I upgraded to vista (yea i no) and needed to upgrade that crap onboard video card.. So i did, i bought the above video card (described above) and went to install it.. I know for a fact it is compaitable, so that can't be the issue..

The problem is that it will load fine, i get to the login screen and i click any account, and it will say welcome, then go to a pitch black screen (sometimes pitch blue) and all i can see is my cursor. If i push ctrl alt del i get the task manager window, it comes up fine, i've also seen the screen saver come on after a while..

Loads in safe mode just fine, desktop loads and everything.. WE've tried disabling/unistalling the stnd. vga driver, installing the most current (9/27/2007) vers. of the ati driver, everything and it just wont work! This is the second card (thought maybe the first one was fualty) so it shoudln't be the card.. I've tried in mulitple pci slots.. no luck

Any help would be so greatly appreciated

Thank you
-Dave

Hi Dave.

I believe you've pretty much answered your own question in your post.

The x1300 is fully compatible with Vista.

It's not underpowered (no aero feature in Vista basic).

By loading into safe mode the card runs off MS's default VGA driver's resident in the o.s (same for boot). And it works.

It's the ATI 32bit Vista drivers you're using the run the card that are causing the issue.

When you say 'onboard' drivers, do you mean an integrated graphics chipset driver resident on the board? or Windows defaults?

I highly recommend you don't mess with Windows unless you know exactly what you're doing. Windows drivers are resident in the registry. Just ask EvilFantasy about messing with Windows registry....

The problem you have is in your card's drivers, nothing more, nothing less.

I would listen closely to Alex.

Vista is a whole new OS as are all of the drivers.

Mucking around with the registry is going to cause more problems then you have now! Registry tools (software) are damaging enough. Using the mouse in the registry is a death blow.

Have you taken the card out gone back to your onboard vid and then try removing the ATI graphics.
