Rated contrast ratios are meaningless. They are gamed by manufacturers in several different ways to look higher such as using grey-to-grey. The only way to compare monitors is to look at them and use them.

thanks for all the advice guys . much appreciated . looks like I'm definately getting the BenQ V2400W 24" ... if you guys know any ridiculously awesome monitors with gr8 specs under $350 CAD .. 24 inches ... please lemme know.. i'll chk them out .
