Default Monitor Frequency Out of Range Error

I've just got an old Emachine 170 desktop (XP SP3) to play around with to help with my Advent PC tech course.

It worked fine at friends house but when I got it home the monitor states frequency out of range 60.4khz/75.5hz.

The Emachine monitor works fine when connected to my Dell desktop and my Acer monitor works fine when connected to the Emachine system unit.

I'm not sure what to hit first with my hammer! Please help!!

Regards

You need to set your screen resolution to a setting your monitor supports in the windows properties.

Default Monitor Frequency Out of Range Error

Thanks for reply Dave (again!)

The monitor is unuseable (is that a word?) as the screen is blank apart from the frequency error message.
Menu buttons on front of monitor are not responding.

Can I set it to correct resolution on my Acer widescreen monitor then reconnect it to Emachine unit?

Monitor in question is 14". What is the correct resolution?
How has it changed during a short trip in my car?

Regards

Dave,
Thanks for your help.

I changed settings via the Intel graphics controller and sorted it.
The refresh rate and sreen size were both wrong.
I think someone had been meddling before I collected the PC!
Valuble lesson learned.
