I built my pc just over a year ago and i want to play cod4 and halo 2 on my pc so i need an upgrade from my on board chipset
Im not sure if it supports an ati or nvidia, i was tolb by somebody since its intel it is compatable with both

this is my mobo- gigabyte

From your specifications page on that motherboard, you have a x16 slot but it only runs at x4 speed.

Get a new motherboard - you have absolutely zero chance of getting a worthwhile gfx upgrade. A 8800GT running at x4 is not going to be worth the money you shell out for it.

it is a x16 slot, its saying it has 4 time the bandwith of the other PCI's

Erm, I'm pretty sure that's not the case. My original post was in error, the specs say:

"1 PCI Express x 16 slot (x4 bandwidth)"

PCI-E x16 has much more than 4x the bandwidth of a normal PCI slot.

well when im on new egg and on the left where you sort stuff it has
PCI Express x16
and all the cards are under it

Hi.

Carbon is correct. The motherboard has a full length pci-e port which will physically support the card quoted but is only running 4 pci-e lanes, so you're going to struggle with bandwidth.

I'd recommend choosing a different motherboard as well to be able to get the most from the card quoted.

alright ive decided to try and look for a motherboard
this one has a $50 rebate i think its kind of cheap and wondered if it was worth buying or not.

Yup, decent board.

Every external connection you could want is supplied.

Also, full 16 lanes in the pci-e port.
