Nope, they are independent and do not need to match. A DDR3 GFX card with work on any Mobo so long as it supports the slot type ie: AGP or PCI-E.

All monitors produced within the last..wow, maybe decade? are "HD" - TVs just got up to those resolutions in the last few years. While I think you're referring to the HD3xxx or HD4xxx. This is just a clever marketing trick, they don't have anything to do with each other.

Good job being vigilant, though, it's always better to make sure everything works beforehand. If you're not sure about your selection, post your current setup and we can take a look and make sure whatever one you selected is a good fit.

I am not sure if i have got a PCI-E 16x 2.0 slot in my motherboard, does my slot have to be 2.0? or can i just get the graphics card without worrying about this?

As long as it's x16, 2.0 part doesn't matter.

Are you sure you have a PCI-E slot, P4's are old and possibly before PCI-E time.

PCI-E slots are not to be confused with a PCI slot.
