well i have a £200 budget give or take £10 here or there.
and i surpose could invest in some more if it is really worth it. but my friends, :) i havnt really kept on top with all the new gear. so im not sure what would be the best deal for me atm. and wondering if you guys could help me out. im running 1000W enermax galaxy, asus striker II formula intel E8500 @4.01GHz.... 19" wide screen, resolution '1280 by 720', soon to be 22" wide i hope, when i get the money :).... ummm anything else just ask ;) im a bit of a temperature freek. so i hate it when stuff is running hot. so if a card is sergested that runs fairly hot then also sergest some cooling for me :) thank you very very much for any replies, regarding any information or anything :) thank you (oh and make it nvidia) thanks

Check out this thread, Carbon just updated it for a complete computer build and there is a section on graphics cards.
http://www.computer-juice.com/forums...station-18844/ If i remember correctly from reading the thread, your preference for nVidia, and your budget, it suggests the one of the 9600 series. Although if you could stretch a few quid more (lol I'm an American and have NO idea how much a quid is worth, or even what one is) I would suggest the 9800GX2, I love mine. i have two of them but really only need one, and NO that's not an offer to sell one of mine lol. |

Yeah, for that much a 4850 or 4870 is ideal. I like the 9600GT but once you get up to 22" 1680×1050 it's going to start hurting. 9800GX2 wouldn't be too bad, but I don't think you need the extra VRAM and it's $100 more. At that point I'd rather have a 4870. Since prices in the UK tend to be much higher than the US, a 4850 should just about be perfect for your budget.
Next time spend less on your CPU, motherboard, and PSU and more on your GPU/monitor! A E8400/P35/550W Corsair would run within 5% spec of your system, esp at such a low resolution!

You can pickup a 4870 for about £170. Then you get a decent cooler as well. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/146429 A 4850 and a decent aftermarket cooler works out to be about £140 - £150 so theres little in it really.

hmm, thank you very much for the feed back, your all v good :)
but im nvidia at heart :( but really all im interested in is how smooth it will play cod4. and fps. so how much of a bigger difference would it make? between a 4870 and a 9800GX2? |

a 6600gt will play cod4. you shouldn't white-knight a group of people in clean rooms over another. there's no point.
they're about equal, the 4870 is cheaper on newegg and is infinitely cooler once you fix the fan, it's also a hell of a lot less noisy. if a 1gpu single card can beat a 2gpu single card i think that's the obvious choice but YMMV.

there's no attitude. it's highly unlikely elsewhere the 9800GX2 is cheaper than the 4870 - if it is, get it by all means, but the above criticisms still apply.
