With the 9 Series slowly coming out according to Wikipedia this will happen by the end of March, begining of April. My Birthday is also then to, i am planning to get the 8800GT but unsure weather to wait. If i waited i am only willing to wait 2 weeks after my birthday which would be half way throgh April, would this have any effect on the price of the 8800 GT or just a few pounds.

Thanks

Buying an 8800GT now wouldn't be a mistake, but it would also be intriguing to see what effect the new 9 series cards have on price of current 8xxx cards, and whether they will live up to the performance demand.

Well, right now I'd look at a 9600GT instead, possibly a 3850 or 3870 because the prices on those have gone down. Extremely similar card, lot cheaper.

With that said, I doubt there's going to be a "killer buy" like there was with the 8800GT this generation. You're most likely going to see expensive high-end cards. If there's a good 8800GTS-like card in the 9 series coming out, you might wanna look into that because that was a pretty decent deal last gen. But I guess we have to wait for benchmarks to see.

I'd wait if your budget is a little flexible.

I ended up getting the 8800GT and a new Power Supply, other than the 4850 and 4870 there is nothing to this day that is as good in terms of price / perfromance ratio.

We can see that the 9 Series apparently superseded the 8 series and as a result made the 8 sereis of nVidia's GPU's discontinued.

Except for the 8800GT, which is the 9800GT and the GTS 240...and the 8800GTS 512, which is the 9800GTX, which is the 9800GTX+, which is the GTS 250.

Thanks but I already know, DX11 cards are now waiting to be released, we'll need to see if Nvidia or AMD create another price : performance monster, hope they do.

The ATi 5xxx series are DX11 cards mate. The GTX 3xx will no doubt be DX11 too.

Shame there's nothing that can use this DX11 wonder..
