hey there
i currently have a 256MB DDR GeForce FX5500 AGP Card, but it does not run the latest games anymore. I am usure whether to change my motherboard as to support the newer as i am told graphics cards. Should I change motherboards as to buy a more future proof graphics card like PCI or PCI-express?

My other option is to buy a good quality AGP card that will fit straight into my comp now. Or buy a whole new computer as my processor would be considered out of date to many AMD Athlon 64 3200

any ideas?

budget of around 200 pounds for graphics/motherboard, or 1000 for a new computer. Liked the quad core, from overclockers, overclocked from 2.66GHZ to 3.2GHz

get an AM2 motherboard with a pci-e slot in it so you can have the latest cards, this will cost around 50-60 pounds. i suggest the asus m2n-e sli motherboard which is compatible with the latest graphics cards with pci-e version 2.0 (e.g. the 8800gt).

then get an am2 amd athlon x2 dual core processor, for about 50 pounds you will probally get a 4600+ which has 2.4ghz on each core or 4.8ghz in total. the latest games like dual cores and work alot better on them.

for the remaining 100 pounds get a 8600 gt or gts which will just about work with the latest games (excluding crysis) and you might want to spend about 20 - 30 more on some extra ram depending on how much you allready have (1 - 2 gb is good). however you may want to be more adventerous and get a 8800gt instead of the 8600, it will cost you 100 pounds more but it will give you about twice the performance and will work very well with crysis and all the other latest games.
