Just to clear things up:

HDMI ONLY carries video, nothing to do with the card, HDMI is a video connection. Like say, S-Video, you simply cannot output sound through it.

Even if you could the quality would suffer, and it would no longer be HD (High Definition) If wasnt HD they could no longer call it a HDMultimediaInterface, because it would be lying, and you therefore wouldn't have HDMI connection.

If you're bothering with HDMI video out, I'm guessing you've got at least a 5.1 Soundcard anyway? Or are you doing it for picture editing, rather than as a home cinema type setup?

I would reccommend getting a 5.1 soundcard if you don't already have one, as you can then have a full cinematic experience, High Definition viewing, (provided you have an HD drive) and surround sound Audio.

Ollie.

HDMI does take audio, it's basicly a high definition version of a scart cable

There are 3 versions of HDMI and the quality will vary depending on what version is used.
Most modern Graphics cards, including latest on board cards, are quite capable.
Some early and cheapo TV Sets might be limited, so check the specs.

If you use a DVI to HDMI lead or Adaptor, then you will not get audio through the connection .... if you use HDMI to HDMI you certainly will, given the 3 versions mentioned.

More info here for those interested.

Only video, as there is no sound ever goin through your graphics card, that'll come through your sound card.

You could get it to work but it would take a lot of cable-pulling, and wouldn't really be worth it.

If the Graphics Card is new and has an HDMI output, it will carry Audio as well as Video, so you will not need a seperate cable from your Sound Card.
This assumes that your TV is capable of course.
