Default Pci-E/Onboard GFX help.

Well, I picked up a new PC, and it's all great and cool and it works fine.

2x AMD 4000 processor (2.1gz)
nVidia 6150 onboard gfx
1024 ram
Vista home edition

And im pretty sure the rest of the information is irrelevant. If you need to know more let me know.

Anyway, I picked up a asus 8600 GT and I pluged it into the PCI-e slot. Usually whenever i put one it it recognizes a new gfx card instantly when i turn it on and starts installing drivers etc etc.

But its not even recognizing that its in there. I tried installing all the drivers, restarted it, and it says "Can not find Asus card." and the programs dont load for it. I plugged in the monitor to it and its like its not even there.

I know i plugged it in correctly because the fan is running inside it. It's just like the computer isn't recognizing that its even there.

This is my first time installing a PCI-e card(used to installing agp ones) so if theres a basic thing you need to do for switching onboard to PCI-e just post it. I'm looking for any information to help out ASAP.

Thank you :)

Is it in the correct PCI slot? ie the x16 slot.
Have you checked the BIOS to make sure the PCIe slot is used for the display as opposed to the onboard graphics?

Push. Make sure it's in there all the way. Regular PCI cards need quite a bit of force, and PCI-E is no exception. The screw holes should line up perfectly if it's in correctly.

Also, I'm not sure if you have to disable the on-board video, but it's worth a try. Go into the BIOS, disable the onboard video, and see if Windows attempts to load the default drivers (or if you can even see Windows at all :p)

Ahh well, I think i figured it out.

My power supply is 250-300 w or something. And apparantly to run the card you need 400-450. That really sucks, i wish the guy at the store would've told me.

Anyway, any suitable upgrades for a power supply of that magnitiude or should I just get a new PSU?

I hate all this screwin around.. wish i could just pop something in and it would run.
