Default Pink Dots and BSOD galore

You guys have saved me before so i'm hoping someones got some help for me this time too.

Nforce 780i SLI
2GB OCZ "Reaper" DDR2 RAM
Intel Q6600 2.4Ghz Not OC'd
Evga 8800 GT 512mb Factory OC'd
SyncMaster T240 Monitor

I've had this system now for about a year and a half now give or take and until now its run relatively problem free. About a week ago Artifacts started popping up everywhere and it's a crap shot whether a game will run.

Heres a desktop screenshot taken from a fresh boot.

Booted in Safemode

This more or less happens everywhere and my stability appears to be degrading as i tried accessing My Pictures folder last night and the image preview bar turned to a mash of colors before everything locked up.
Games like Fallout 3 and DoW 2 were previously loading to the actual game but would also turn into blocks of color. Sometimes i got the BSOD, somtimes if i was quick enough to try to get to the desktop id get an error about the NV4_disp but still be able to reboot. Now they get to their respective menu's then give me the color jumble.

First i tried updating the driver but this did nothing so i tried getting rid of all traces of it using the advice from http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_3.html . even after using driver sweep and trying newer and older tested working drivers still nothing. i checked all my monitor software as well since it had a few conflicts in the past just to be safe but this was also no help. Lastly i picked up AVG and ran a full system sweep on the off chance this was a virus i picked up since my system 32 folder for windows comes up on boot up now for some reason.
Any help or advice with this issue is greatly appreciated. As i said this ran or more or less the same since i built it and am stumped as to what is going on.
If i can provide anymore info that will help just let me know.
