Default Question regarding Core and Mem speeds.

~Two cards;
nVidia 9600
740MHz Core, 512MB 1950MHz GDDR3 Memory, 64 Stream Processors, SLi Ready, 10yr Warranty with EVGA Direct.

ATI HD 3800
800MHz Core, 512MB 2340MHz GDDR4 Memory, 320 Stream Processors, CrossfireX Ready, 1yr Warranty with TUL/OcUK, Supplied Call of Juarez PC-DVD Game!

Why the heck is the nvidia card £6 more expensive???
[EDIT] The cheaper ATI card is £140

[EDIT2]
And another nvidia; (8800 GTX)
575MHz Core, 768MB 1800MHz GDDR3 Memory, 128 Stream Processors, SLi Ready, 3yr Warranty.

This time is £110 more expensive and looking at the stats, an amature, (like me) would go for the ATI card in a flash. Whats up with that??

Default Question regarding Core and Mem speeds.

Whoa, wait a second. There isn't a "HD 3800", only a HD 3850 and a 3870, and neither have those clock speeds. Linking to what you're talking about might help.

Default Question regarding Core and Mem speeds.

Putting the description into google leaves only this link:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/produc...d=56&subid=416

But that is to a list of cards, none of which include a HD3800

Default Question regarding Core and Mem speeds.

I dont think I made a mistake.... here is the link. All the cards can be found there. See for yourself.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/produc...d=701&catid=56

Just take a look at the £140 +- cards;

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=56&subcat=416

I ordered that one on the day it came out but my order was cancelled for an unexplained reason.

Default Question regarding Core and Mem speeds.

The 8800GT and 9600GT are at the same price as the 3870. The 3870 is about the same as the 9600GT in benchmarks, as there's no real difference other than a small decrease in clock speed (that can be made up in OC anyway), and the 3870's increased universal shaders.

The 8800GT, though, is a little more expensive and performs well over the 3870. I'm not sure exactly why at this point, but I figure it has less to do with clock speed and more to do with simple better engineering on the card.

I think you'll find 60mhz and so forth on the core isn't that big of a deal. It's wise not to trust specifications but look at real-world benchmarks, where the 8800GT trounces the 3870, which is itself about the same as a 9600GT but with lower AA performance.

Default Question regarding Core and Mem speeds.

there is a big difference in shader clocks with nvidia and ati radeon cards

if you look on tomshardware or other benchmarking review sites you will see nvidia cards almost always come out on top. Nvidia is the better brand and you get what you pay for.
