Question Radeon Card

Hi all

I am not sure what card I can use to replace a Radeon 7500 series 64mb graphics card. On checking my motherboard I have a type 2 AGP slot, not sure what that means. Can anyone recommend a backward compatible ATI card at least 256mb that would fit in this AGP slot. Or would I be better off getting a larger PCI card, "My M/B does not support pci express.

It is the first time I have been on a computer forum, but I have looked on Google and am getting confused about AGP voltages, with the different versions.

If I can get the name of the type of card I want, I can look on Ebay

Thanks

A type 2 AGP port is x4 speed, I wouldn't worry about voltages because the earlier speeds of AGP cards required more voltage through the port than successive progressions of the technology.

Any current AGP card will work in the port. If it was me, I'd be going for the 128mb 9600XT at around 110 quid. Anything higher, like the 9700, is going to cost you over 250 quid. It's simply not worth it for that kind of money.

Otherwise there is the X1550 at around 70 quid, but it's not going to have the umph of either of the cards above.

Ideally, your best bet would be the X800. But i don't know anywhere that sells these, new, now. Might be worth a look at Freeads or Ebay. I'd guess it would cost over 200 quid now, new. But second hand it should be a lot cheaper.

Good buy.

The 9600XT was a damn fine card in its day.
