It's possible in nVidia control panel, would assume under ATI as well.

If you only have the 1 video out from your laptop it will be harder, I think it's still possible, as I think I remember seeing things that allow the connection of 2 monitors to the same port (and be used as separate monitors)

I don't know if things have changed, but this used to include a seperate controller.
