Default Searchin' for vision!

Hi to everyone reading this...

I have been into the gaming scene for about 1 year now (mainly HL2, TF2). I now realize that if I want to enjoy more of the gaming experience, and to help my game improve (that's the deal!), I need to upgrade my graphics card.

My existing machine carried an OEM nvidia Geforce 6700 XL, I have just upgraded this to another OEM Geforce 7500LE. Having carried out an FPS test on game the results gave apprximately 20 FPS (boy it's that bad!!)

Biting the bullet I have decided to go for the 8600 GTS (about £140) but would really like the 8800GTS 320MB (roughly £179). Having investigated and reading your forum, I am left with a few questions, such as PSU capability and Processor power.
If I give you my machine and monitor spec, could you give me advice which system would be optimum?

Medion Titanium MD 8800
Pentium D 3.00 ghz proc
2 Gbyte RAM

Iiyama 19" LCD Prolite E435S monitor (DVI connection)

If anyone has any suggestions/recommendations I would be eternally thankful!!

CPU isn't so great, but you could still get better performance out of it.

You should be fine but I dunno about the PSU. You haven't said the wattage.

If you can't afford a 8800GT get the GTS, definitely.

Thanks for your advice Carbon. My PSU is 400W. I am using XP OS

I can afford the 8800GT but don't want to buy it if it isn't compatible with my PC. Am I right in saying that you would recommend the 8600GT otherwise?

Cheers

Both require at minimum 400W. So you're fine for the 8800GT. If that's too pricey, go with the (old 65nm) 8800GTS. The 8600GT is a pretty terrible card for the money.

I would suggest a PSU upgrade though..
