Hi all, I've just purchased a lovely Dell Inspiron Mini 10 at max spec(£308) however upon receiving it I realised that I did not purchase the Display upgrade @ £30 (HD Display 1366x768). Right now the max res I can get is 1024x576 without loosing screen ratio (1024x768 is possible ...

Default Seeking Opinion About 1024x576 Vs 1366x768

Hi all,

I've just purchased a lovely Dell Inspiron Mini 10 at max spec(£308) however upon receiving it I realised that I did not purchase the Display upgrade @ £30 (HD Display 1366x768). Right now the max res I can get is 1024x576 without loosing screen ratio (1024x768 is possible but I have to stretch to fit and it looks... You know...)

Should I go through with handing over this unit back for refund and then purchase a new one (that's the only option) or should I stick with 1024x576? They will now charge me £23 for the collection though so essentially it's now £53.

I just can't make up my mind if I should aim for the best granted that I use my laptop to store pictures and watch movies. I just don't know if £53 is worth the difference in res?!

Thanks A LOT for advising.

Depends on your choice really, personally I can't stand low resolutions, the fuzzy big icons etc, I much prefer the clean, sharp higher res's.

Too true, neither can I. The look of fuzzy taskbars and massive desktop icons sends me back in the 90s and I dislike that. The thing is... Is the difference of 1024x576 to 1366x768 going to be that different to be worth £53 (£30 upgrade + £23 collection/refund)?

I agree with hybr!d, small icons look cleaner and the whole experiance is alot better looks better finished off with a higher res but I would pay £ 53 just to get the chosen display settings im sure you could live with out it ? lol.
But if you really want it you should get it :)

Default Seeking Opinion About 1024x576 Vs 1366x768

Actually, I've consulted a friend who recommended I return my Dell even for £23 fee and purchase a Samsung NC10 which, apparently, is the best Netbook money can buy on the market at this current time. Now all I have to confirm is if the Display will support a high res than 1024x576...
Any comments?

Well the Dell I have cost me £308 whereas the Samsung is currently at £296 at PC World.
I found out that the Samsung has 1024x600 so it's not much of an improvement but I will go and check it out on-site if possible...

I went to Micro Anvika this afternoon to see the Display model they had. I have to say I am very pleased with what I saw. It features everything the Dell has and more. It comes standard with a fantastic battery (7hrs), Atom N270, 1GB RAM upgradable to 2GB and the 950 Chipset Graphic Card enabling up to 1024x600. That res looked exactly like what I wanted. The Dell had the 500 Chipset card, that explains my disappointment... I just got confirmation of collection/refund so I'll purchase the Samsung online...
