Default SLI compatability

hi, i was thinking about getting 2 8600 GTSes and putting them in SLI but i heard that not all games are compatible with SLI and by that i mean an incompatible game would only use the one card instead of both of them. Is this true or did i just misread it?

What you say is true, only a (big)handful of games support SLI, your best bet would be to go with a more powerful single card like a 8800, as the performance increase you get from SLI it just isn't worth it IMO

well according to the nvidia website SLI works on anything but it has to be set manually or by a driver update. can anyone confirm this?

What they're saying is that any game can be coded to use dual-cards, their cards, with their drivers. (Social:wasn't there a thread on this recently??).

It depends on the coder's of games as to whether or not they want to make use of dual cards, be it Nvidia SLI, or AMD Crossfire.

Also, the majority of games that support SLI only see about a 10-60% increase in performance, and the majority see a boost at the low end of that percentage scale.

Nope, get a single card, you could get a 640mb 8800GTS for the price of two 8600GTS's. And that's an awesome card, capable of gaming upto a res of 1920x1200, and as it's a single card you'll see the performance 'boost' in every game, not just a handful.
